  Pahansila meeting in Kandy
December 22, 2007

Ishika Lokuge, committee member of Pahansila General Coordinating Committee, met with several Pahansila scholarship recipients, on December 22, 2007. This is the first meeting we conducted for 2007/2008 period out of three. All the scholarship recipients (and parents/guardians of them) in Central, North-Central, Nortwestern, Uva, and Sabaragamuwa provinces were invited for the meeting. The meeting was held at the Veera Keppetipola Hall (Sri Vaishakadana Sangraha Samithiya) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mr. H.L.N Perera, one of the Pahansila administrators coordinated the meeting with the help of Mr. V. Subramaniam and Mrs. Ruwangani Jayasundara.

Over 100 guests attended the meeting, including 37 scholarship recipients, their parents/guardians, former scholarship recipients, 4 donors of Sri Lankan chapter, many local supervisors, and a head of a school - Mr. Nishantha Tennakoon, The Principal of Polgollawatte Vidyalaya. It was a very successful meeting. It gave the opportunity to meet recipients & their guardians in person, resolve any problems they might have encountered, and emphasize the importance of maintaining academic and extra-curricular progress for the students. A head of a school, some Pahansila volunteers, a former Pahansila scholarship recipient, and an older recipient (University student) addressed the group, encouraging the younger students with examples of their experiences. In addition, a few of the younger students and some parents spoke to the group.  Pahansila General Coordinating Committee provided tea and snacks as breakfast and lunch for all the attendees. Furthermore, all scholarship recipients and families attended the meeting received reimbursements for bus fares.

Pahansila General Coordinating Committee wishes to thank our volunteers who did a splendid job in organizing the meeting. Also we wish to thank the management Sri Vaishakadana Sangaraha Samithiya for providing the venue for a concession rate.
