A new project was launched to provide a Vocational and Technical Training to the students who are waiting for G.C.E.(OL) examination results and for students who completed studies and looking for a career on their own. As the first stage, we selected 16 students, mostly from the Polgollawatte School to follow a range of vocational and technical courses offered by National Youth Council, Polgolla under the Ministry of Youth Affairs. This program offers a variety of courses including computer courses, information technology, web designing, graphic designing, quantity surveying, landscaping, motor mechanism, beauty culture, hotelier and bakery course, refrigerator and air condition repairs, industrial machine operating, electrical and electronic repairs etc. Selected student are allowed to follow a program of their choice. Course fees range from Rs.3000 to Rs.14,000 and the period of training varies from 3 months to one year. Some of these are diplomas and all those who successfully complete the course will receive a recognized certificate. Under the stage one, we have allocated approximately US$1,000 for this program for the year 2008. Pahansila-Davis Educational project pays part of the course fees at the beginning and after an evaluation about the progress of the student half way through the course, the balance is paid. The Principal of Polgollawatte Vidyalaya, Mr. Nishantha Tennakoon supervises the project.
