Mr. Kelley Davis, benefactor of Pahansila-Davis Educational Project made his seventh site visit to see the progress of the projects we conduct in Sri Lanka. This is his second visit in 2010. For the past 5 years this program has been implemented only in Kandy. One main objective of this visit is to expand this project to another area.
On the first day Mr. Davis visited Polgollawatte School, accompanied by Pahansila volunteers. Guests enjoyed a Math workshop and exhibition arranged by students and Math teacher. After meeting with the Principal and discussing the future plans of our project, they visited Sarana Sevana children's home. Mr. Davis went on a tour in the facility and was shown the newly improved garden and kitchen utensils/appliances we donated in March 2010. As in previous visits, the children unveiled their musical and dancing talents as well as their English conversation skills in a form of an interactive game. Mr. Davis discussed about 2011 plans with Pahansila volunteers, teachers, and the representatives of the Board of Management of the orphanage. Thereafter, the librarian of Weerodara School who joined the occasion updated about the latest additions to their library since Mr. Davis' last visit. At the end of the day, children and guests enjoyed traditional Sri Lankan sweets and tea.
On the second day Mr. Davis travelled to Colombo with a Pahansila volunteer to meet a few volunteers who are willing to start two new projects under Pahansila-Davis Educational Program. They visited Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya, Rajagiriya and Thapovanaya Children's home. Guests were taken on a guided tour by the Colombo team and introduced to the heads of the institutions. Finally, they discussed how they can start a similar project as in Kandy at these two new locations.
We are thankful to Mr. Kelley Davis for taking the effort to visit the projects and for their valuable input. Our thanks also go out to all our Kandy volunteers and new team of volunteers from Colombo and the heads of the institutions visited by the guests for all the support and arrangements.
