Mr. Kelley Davis, benefactor of Pahansila-Davis Educational
Project made his eighth site visit to see the progress of
the projects we conduct in Sri Lanka. This time he visited along with
his parents, Kermit and Jean Davis.
On the first day, guests met the families of Pahansila volunteers and
staff. Following day they visited Weerodara School, Polgollawatte School, and
Sarana Sevana children's home. They also visited the new house we built for a
Pahansila Scholarship recipient. Unfortunately, since it was the vacation
time for Sri Lankan schools, the students were not present. However the
Principals of the schools were kind enough to arrange a staff member to take the
guests on a tour.
At Sarana Sevana the children welcomed the Davis family in a
traditional parade and offering beetle leaves. As previous times, the
children unveiled their musical and dancing talents as well as their
English conversation skills. They presented a poster of "Kermit the
frog" to Mr. Kermit Davis signed by them. Mr. Davis discussed 2011 plans
with Pahansila volunteers, teachers, and the representatives of the Board
of Management of the orphanage. He inspected the new carpentry workshop and the
tools donated by Pahansila. There were many guests present at this function,
including staff members, board members, Pahansila Scholarship beneficiaries, and
our volunteers. All were treated with traditional Sri Lankan sweets
and tea. At the end of the day, Mr. Davis presented Sri Lankan cricket
jerseys as a New Year gift to all the children. Mr. and Mrs. Kermit and
Jean Davis also distributed many gifts among the students, they
bought from USA.
We are thankful to Davis family for taking the effort to visit the
projects and for their valuable input. Our thanks also go out to all our Kandy
volunteers and the heads of the institutions visited by the guests for all
the support and arrangements.
